"Mummy, I'm in trouble, send money" from a new number

A message from an unknown number says it is your child or relative on a new phone, in urgent need of money.

How it works

  1. A WhatsApp message from an unknown number says "Hi Mummy, this is my new number, my phone broke".
  2. Soon there is an urgent problem: a bill, a fine or a fee that must be paid now to someone else's account.
  3. The sender avoids calls and voice notes and keeps the pressure on until the money is sent.
