"Your Aadhaar was used in money laundering" call

A caller says your Aadhaar was used in a crime, connects you to fake officers, and pushes you into a digital arrest.

Community reports: 0

How it works

  1. A recorded call says your SIM will be blocked, and then someone pretending to be from the police or CBI says your Aadhaar was used to open an account for money laundering.
  2. You are moved to a video call with fake officers, shown fake warrants, and told you are under "digital arrest" and must not tell anyone.
  3. To "prove your innocence", you are ordered to transfer your savings or fixed deposits to a "verification account" that belongs to the scammers.

What it looks like

Example messages. Numbers and links are masked.

Your mobile number will be blocked in 2 hours due to illegal activity. Press 9 to speak to the officer.

Red flags

  • "Digital arrest" does not exist in Indian law
  • Police calling on WhatsApp or video call
  • Arrest warrants shown on a screen
  • Orders to stay on camera and tell no one
  • Money to be moved to "verify" it

The one question to ask

Would real police ask you to send your savings to prove you are innocent?

Already paid or shared details?

  • Fake narcotics or customs officer on video
