A 75-year-old woman in Mangaluru lost ₹2 crore after a call in September 2026 from a man who said he was a Mumbai police officer. He told her she was linked to money laundering, drug dealing and child trafficking. A supposed CBI officer then came on a WhatsApp video call and said she was bound by a "National Secrecy Act" of the Supreme Court, was being watched, and must tell no one.
She was promised she would be cleared in two days once her accounts and property were "verified", and sent ₹60 lakh and then ₹1.40 crore by RTGS. Police have registered a case.
The lesson: an "officer" who swears you to secrecy and asks you to move savings for verification is a fraudster. There is no such law.
