Agent offering to recover unclaimed dividends or old shares for a fee
An agent offers to recover old shares or unclaimed dividends and asks for fees or document access that is misused.
Community reports: 0
How it works
- A caller or email says shares or dividends in your name, or a late parent's name, are lying unclaimed, and offers to recover them for you.
- The "agent" asks for an upfront fee and copies of your PAN, Aadhaar and share certificates, or signed blank forms.
- The fees keep rising, nothing is recovered, and the documents may be used to transfer the shares to someone else.

Dear Sir, our records show 1,200 shares and unclaimed dividend of Rs 3.4 lakh in your late father's name. We can recover the full amount. Registration fee Rs 18,000.
Please courier the original share certificates and signed transfer forms to our office so we can file the claim faster.
Red flags
- A stranger knows about your forgotten shares
- Fee before anything is recovered
- Asks for originals or signed blank forms
- Fees that keep growing
The one question to ask
Have you checked with the company or its share registrar yourself before paying anyone?
Already paid or shared details?
Stop paying and do not send original certificates or signed forms. Tell the company's share registrar that your documents may be misused, and call 1930 or file a complaint at cybercrime.gov.in if money or documents have gone.
