SIM swap or "eSIM upgrade" request
A caller offers a 5G or eSIM upgrade and asks you to forward an SMS, which moves your number to their device.
Community reports: 0
How it works
- A caller says he is from your mobile network and offers a free 5G or eSIM upgrade, or warns that your SIM will stop working.
- He asks you to send an SMS with a code, or to forward an SMS or email you receive, to "confirm" the upgrade.
- This moves your number to an eSIM on his phone, your SIM goes dead, and he uses your OTPs to empty your bank account.

The one question to ask
Why would your mobile company need you to forward a message to a stranger?
Already paid or shared details?
If your phone suddenly loses signal, go to your operator's store with ID at once to block or replace the SIM. Call your bank on the number on your card to block cards and UPI, then call 1930 and file a complaint at cybercrime.gov.in. You can also report the call on sancharsaathi.gov.in (Chakshu).
