Transfer savings to an "RBI verification account"
Fake officers tell you to move your savings or fixed deposits to an "RBI account" for checking, promising to return them.
Community reports: 0
How it works
- After a call about a crime, a parcel or a tax problem, someone pretending to be a police, CBI or RBI officer says your money must be checked to prove it is clean.
- They send letters with RBI logos and tell you to break your fixed deposits and transfer everything to an "RBI verification account" or "safe account".
- They promise to return it all within a day, but the account belongs to the scammers and the money is moved on within minutes.

As per RBI guidelines, all your funds must be verified. Transfer the full amount to the RBI escrow account below. It will be returned within 24 hours with a clearance certificate.
Madam, close your FD today and do not tell the bank staff why. If they ask, say it is for a family function.
Red flags
- Asked to move savings to "verify" them
- Told to lie to your bank staff
- Letters with RBI logos on WhatsApp
- A promise to return money after checking
- Secrecy, and threats if you tell family
The one question to ask
Why would any genuine officer need your money in their account in order to check it?
Already paid or shared details?
Stop all further transfers and tell your family at once. Call 1930 immediately, as money sent in the last few hours can often be frozen, then call your bank on the number on your card and file a complaint at cybercrime.gov.in with the account numbers and screenshots.
