Health insurance renewal or health card update
A message or call about renewing health insurance or a health card asks for payment or an OTP through an unofficial channel.

How it works
- A call or SMS, made to look like it is from your insurer, says your health policy expires today, your government health card needs an update, or a claim is pending.
- You are sent a payment link or a UPI request, or asked to share an OTP, sometimes with a big discount if you renew right now.
- The money goes to the scammer, no policy is issued, and you may find out only when a hospital refuses cover.

Uncle, your health card update is pending. You will get an OTP, please tell me for verification, otherwise the card will be cancelled.
Red flags
- Renewal link from an unknown number
- Big discount only if you pay now
- OTP asked to "update" a card
- A UPI collect request you did not start
The one question to ask
Have you checked the renewal on your insurer's own app or the helpline in your policy papers?
Already paid or shared details?
Call your bank on the number printed on your card to block cards and UPI, then call 1930 and file a complaint at cybercrime.gov.in. Check with your insurer, on the number in your policy papers, that your cover is still active.
