Fake payment screenshot
A customer shows or sends a screenshot of a successful payment that never reached your account.
Community reports: 0
How it works
- A customer in a hurry shows a payment success screen, or sends a screenshot on WhatsApp for an order.
- The screen is edited or comes from a fake payment app, and no money has arrived.
- By the time you check your account, the customer has left with the goods.
What it looks like
Example messages. Numbers and links are masked.
Payment successful, Rs 4,850 paid to Sharma Electronics (shown on the customer's phone)
Sir I have paid the advance, see screenshot. Please dispatch today.
Red flags
- A customer in a hurry
- You did not hear your sound box or see an alert
- A screenshot instead of a credit in your app
- Pressure to hand over goods at once
The one question to ask
Has the money arrived in your own bank or payment app, not on their screen?
Already paid or shared details?
Note the time, the amount and any CCTV footage, and file a complaint at cybercrime.gov.in or at your local police station. Warn neighbouring shops; the same person often tries the trick on the same street.
