Delivery agent asking for an OTP to "complete" a return or pickup
A "delivery agent" asks for an OTP to complete a return or pickup, and the OTP authorises a payment or account change.

How it works
- A delivery agent, at your door or on the phone, says he has come to pick up a return or deliver a parcel and needs an OTP to "complete" it.
- The OTP that arrives is really for a payment, a change of UPI or wallet, or a new login to your shopping, bank or WhatsApp account.
- Once you read out the OTP, money is taken or your account is taken over.
What it looks like
Example messages. Numbers and links are masked.
Sir, I am from the courier, your return pickup is here. An OTP has come on your phone, just tell me so I can close the pickup.
Madam, your cash on delivery is cancelled. I am sending an OTP for the refund, please read me the 6 digits.
Red flags
- OTP message mentions payment or login
- A pickup or parcel you did not book
- Agent insists you read it out
- OTP asked for over the phone
The one question to ask
What does the OTP message itself say it is for?
Already paid or shared details?
Call your bank on the number printed on your card to block cards and UPI, and change the password of the account the OTP was for. If your WhatsApp was taken over, log in again with your number and warn your contacts. If any money has left, call 1930 at once and file a complaint at cybercrime.gov.in.
