AI voice clone of a family member in distress
A call in the exact voice of your child or relative, in panic, asks for money for an accident, arrest or hospital.
Community reports: 0
How it works
- A short clip of your relative's voice from social media is used to create a copy of it.
- You receive a call in that voice, crying or panicking about an accident, arrest or kidnapping, then a "police officer" or "doctor" takes over.
- You are pushed to pay immediately and told not to call anyone.
What it looks like
Example messages. Numbers and links are masked.
(Voice of your son, crying) Papa, I have had an accident, please help. (Another voice) He hit someone. Pay Rs 1 lakh now or we file the case.
Your daughter is with us. Do not call the police. Send money to this UPI in 30 minutes.
Red flags
- Panic in a familiar voice
- Someone else quickly takes over the call
- An order not to call anyone
- Payment to a UPI ID or an unknown account
The one question to ask
Have you hung up and called your relative back on their own number?
Already paid or shared details?
Call 1930 at once: in the first hour the money can often still be frozen before it moves on. Then call your bank on the number printed on your card, and file a complaint at cybercrime.gov.in with screenshots of every message and payment.
