Aadhaar-enabled payment misuse through cloned fingerprints
Fingerprints taken from property or other records are cloned and used to withdraw money through Aadhaar-enabled payments.

How it works
- Your fingerprints and Aadhaar number are taken from copies of property registration documents, or collected at your door by someone running a fake "survey" or "scheme enrolment".
- Fraudsters make a fake copy of your fingerprint and use it with your Aadhaar number at a micro ATM or Aadhaar-enabled payment point.
- Money is withdrawn from your Aadhaar-linked bank account without any card or OTP, and you may notice only when you check your balance.
What it looks like
Example messages. Numbers and links are masked.
Uncle, government survey for free ration and pension. Just give your Aadhaar number and put your thumb here, it takes one minute. (said at the door)
Your fingerprint did not match, please put your thumb on the machine once more. (said at a shop or camp)
Red flags
- Thumbprint asked at your door for a "survey"
- Fingerprint taken twice, "first one failed"
- Withdrawals you never made, with no OTP
- Aadhaar number collected without any receipt
The one question to ask
Why does a stranger need both your Aadhaar number and your thumbprint?
Already paid or shared details?
Lock your Aadhaar biometrics through UIDAI's official myAadhaar website or the mAadhaar app, so your fingerprints cannot be used again until you unlock them. Call your bank on the number printed on your card or passbook to report the withdrawals, then call 1930 and file a complaint at cybercrime.gov.in.
